The Greeley West baseball team was being no-hit by Zach Pettofrezzo through five innings, but broke out the bats in the sixth inning and rallied for a 12-4 victory at Poudre High School on Thursday afternoon.
Poudre touched up Spartans’ starter Tyler Rebeterano in the first inning, but the senior pitcher got better as he went to earn the victory for the Spartans. Rebeterano (1-1) threw a 90-pitch complete game, striking out seven hitters with no walks.
The Spartans, who have been desperate for a string of hits in the last few weeks, exploded in the sixth inning. After a Hunter Miller walk, Aaron Rojas broke up the no-hitter with a solid single. Connor Fagan tripled – the first of five extra-base hits in the last two frames – to pull the Spartans within two. Then, Rebeterano drove in the tying run before Cedric Corrales broke the tie with a two-out, 2 RBI double.
Rojas, Rebeterano, and Luis DeLeon each finished the game with two hits for the Spartans, who improved to 3-6 in 5A Front Range League play and 5-10 overall. Poudre dropped to 3-4 and 5-9.
The Spartans play their last home game of the season on Saturday at 11 a.m. when they take on Fairview at Butch Butler Field.
