Spartans News · Spartans send seniors out with win in last home game

The Greeley West baseball team rallied from four runs down and worked its way around four defensive errors to beat Fairview 8-5 at Butch Butler Field on Saturday afternoon.

Fairview took the early advantage in the fourth inning, hitting just one ball into the outfield.  Spartans starter Tyler Holmes walked the leadoff hitter.  The next hitter, who was trying to sacrifice the runner to second base, reached base on a scoring error.  After a hit and a bunt single, Fariview scored its next two runs on an error, a ground out, and a bases loaded walk.  Cedric Corrales surrendered another earned run in the fifth, but shut down the Knights from there to move his record to 2-1 on the season.

Offensively, West got timely hitting from Luis DeLeon, who drove in two runs with a double in the fourth and Aaron Rojas who drove in the game-winner in the bottom of the sixth.  DeLeon finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate.  Tyler Rebeterano and Alex Holguin also had two hits each for the Spartans.

West ran its 5A Front Range League record to 4-6 and improved to 6-10 overall.  The Spartans travel to Fossil Ridge on Tuesday.
